I've been playing the Open Mic at the Red Light Cafe in Atlanta on Wednesday nights fairly regularly. Anybody in the area should come by to check it out or to play.

New Music / New Outlook

I've been keeping things pretty quiet lately, but there's some exciting things on the horizon. I'm going to start fleshing out a new album soon. I'm hoping to have fuller instrumentations on this one and better production quality. Some of the songs off of Verdant will appear again in a more polished version.

I'm going to start lining up more show in the upcoming months as well. Things will be settled down and my addiction for baseball will be over until next season. Look for some dates in the Southeast for sure.

Also, a special thanks for all who came out to my last show at The Space in Hamden CT. It was great to see everybody!

Old Roads

It's been a while since I've posted a new blog here or updated the website. I'm working on finishing my debut album and that combined with laziness has caused very little work on the site. I've been playing out a lot in the Decatur, GA area and have some upcoming shows out of town
March 22 - The Sentient Bean - Savannah, GA
March 23 - Drip Drop Cafe - Warner Robbins, GA
If anybody is in the area or wants to make a road trip to see a show I'd love to see you.
I will post another blog once the album is done and ready.

Checking In

So it's been a while since I wrote a post here.
In the last month or so I've moved to Atlanta, GA, started a new job, and finding the local music scene.
One of the local venues I've found is Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA. It's only about 20 minutes from my place and they've got some great bands that play there. They've got an Open Mic on Monday nights where there is a waiting list a few weeks long.
Just tonight I went to a show there and saw some great performances. One of the performers I'd like to reccommend everybody check out is Bill Mallonee. He really knows how to right songs with truth and sincerity. They reach out and touch your soul. Check out his website at billmallonee.net.

I'm starting to write songs again aftet the move. I've got a couple in the works. I'm also working on getting some decent recordings done. The thrown-down-in-as-quick-as-possible-using-as-cheap-as possible-gear recordings is starting to wear thin and I hope to have better representations in the future.

The first week of May I'll be packing up my truck and heading down to Atlanta GA. I've loved living in Connecticut but my job is now in Atlanta.

Last Night

I played the open mike at The Cubbyhole last night. I played "Elusive" and "Another Night In the Mine." I felt I played them pretty well. The crowd seemed responsive which was good. Saw a lot of other good performers there as well.

I'm going to try to make it to an Open Mic over at the Cubbyhole Coffeehouse tonight, 3/21.

I also was reading some excellent stuff in this guy's blogs on myspace http://www.myspace.com/cuomomusic. He talks about playing in the subway of NYC. The idea of playing in the subway just seems so raw and pure.
I might start playing down in the NYC subways to see what it is all about.

Recording

The recording process has started.
I started recording my upcoming EP last week. Things are sounding promising. It will be a very ambitious project. We're going to throw everything but the kitchen sink into this one.
...well we might put the kitchen sink in if it sounds good.

Open Mike at the CubbyHole

Last night I played at the Cubbyhole Coffeehouse inPoughkeepsie, NY http://cubbyholecoffeehouse.com
It went really well. I played two tunes, "Another Night in the Mines" and "Letters." There were some really good performances. One of note was Welcome Back Enoch, at least that is what I think their name was. Not sure. Good show.
I'm glad there are places to play, that appreciate good music.

Over-Produced Pop

Listening to over-produced pop makes me physically ill...
It bugs me that they follow the "recipe" to get their "hits."

For me it seems hard to sell my soul to the record labels pumping this garbage out.

In Review - City Alehouse Show

Open Mikes

I've been playing some open mics recently. There are some great places with great crowds. Here some of the ones I've played at and would recommend to everybody.

The Space - Tuesday Nights 7pm - Hamden, CT - Great venue, excellent crowd, great sound system.

Cubbyhole Coffeehouse - Tuesday Nights 7:00 pm - Poughkeepsie, NY - Small place right near the Vassar campus. Good sized crowd.

Mocha Coffeehouse - Sundays 5pm - Sandy Hook, CT - Small place, nice vibe, good audience.

I've also discovered a great resource for finding Open Mics at openmikes.org

Winter

It's been cold and dreary for so long and I understand that feeling. I'm ready for warmer weather and the change of seasons. Ready for a rebirth of sorts. I've discovered lots of excellent music on myspace recently. Check out the people listed in my account as friends. There is some great stuff there. Most of it blows away what is playing on the radios.

Great Band - The Everybody Fields

I saw this band, The Everybody Fields last night in Hamden, Ct at The Space
I have to say they were one of the best bands I have ever seen. I picked up their latest album "Plague of Dreams" and it has been playing all day. My favorite track on the album is "Good To be home." There is great songwriting on here and the sound just captivates me. I can feel these songs in my bones and they strike something within.

"By the time we hit Virginia
I had tombstones down both sides of my faces
Driving all night home from Boston
I was so tired of being away
thinking about summertimes and heatwaves
and a town where it hardly snow
Hittin apples with a baseball bat in august
That is where I want to go
It's so good to be home."

Hearing these lines I am in the song. I'm seeing the home he's talkin about and I feel the pull to the places I call home. Excellent stuff
